Match report from U15s at Farnborough (friendly) - 27 September 2009
Farnborough 43 Guildfordians 12 (HT 19-0)
A great team effort and an entertaining game of rugby.
The score line flattered Farnborough in a match that was close and competitive. Farnborough's only real advantage came in the shape of a couple of lightning-fast backs, who scored a number of break-away tries from defensive positions. Guildfordians game was characterised by superb tackling, excellent forward play and 100% team effort right up to the final whistle. Much of the match was played in Farnborough's half of the field, but unfortunately Guildfordians found it difficult to convert their pressure into tries.
Guildfordians highlights:
- Alex missed the first half due to a training injury but was keen to start the second half despite a limp. He quickly showed his tenacity by running in Guildfordians' first try.
- Ryan, new to the team this season, having learned his rugby in South Africa, made an impressive start. Scoring a try and making the conversion, he was central to many of the attacking plays and also made some great defensive kicks.
- Eliot made a number of try-stopping tackles throughout the match. His most impressive was a double-tackle - tackling the ball carrier as the ball was off-loaded and getting to his feet so fast he was able to tackle the player who had received the ball and bundle him into touch.
- Lawrence's last-ditch ankle tackle stopped a try from the Farnborough back who had run almost the length of the pitch.
- Fierce tackling and malling from the big forwards, including Ben, Adam and Gerry combined with a fine performance from the scrum half, George.
- Connor, unable to play this week due to a school sports injury, showed fantastic team spirit by making the journey with his dad to support the team for this away fixture.
